Principal Investigator

Dr. Dima Bolmatov

Dr. Bolmatov is an Assistant Professor of Physics and Astronomy at Texas Tech University, where he leads the Membrane-to-Cell Systems & Bio-Intelligence Lab. He also holds an appointment as Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Cell Physiology and Molecular Biophysics at the TTUHSC School of Medicine. His research seeks to uncover the physical principles underlying biological memory, adaptation, and electromechanical function across scales, from synthetic lipid bilayers to living cells, with implications for neuromorphic materials, biophysics, and human health.

Graduate Students

Paul Dixon

Before joining Texas Tech, Paul worked as a Certified Surgical Neurophysiologist, monitoring nervous system activity during complex spinal procedures. His clinical experience inspired a deeper interest in the physics of biological systems and continues to shape his research at the intersection of biophysics, electrophysiology, neurodiagnostics, and medical technology.

Undergraduate Students

Ashley Cleveland

Before joining Texas Tech, Ashley spent five years working as a paramedic, an experience that shaped her tenacity, perseverance, and commitment to improving human health. Her educational background is highly interdisciplinary, bringing together the physical and life sciences and providing a unique perspective on problems at the interface of physics, biology, and medicine. Through her research experience, Ashley is developing a strong interest in applying fundamental physical principles and quantitative methods to biomedical challenges. She plans to pursue graduate studies in medical physics, with the long-term goal of contributing to the development and application of advanced technologies in medicine.
