Each user of the Bodyguard, Virtual Defender, Personal Security Network must create a user account which is necessary to maintain user-related account data, and allow for user identification, and communication among members of the network.
This section describes the details of creating and maintaining a Bodyguard user account.
Every Bodyguard client account is tied to the user's Gmail address. This methodology provides the following benefits to the Application's users.
1. No need to maintain yet another set of credentials and passwords.
2. All Android users usually already have a Gmail account tied to their phone.
3. Creating a new Gmail account is easy and free.
4. Your Gmail account already maintains a database of contacts. No need to create a redundant set of data to maintain.
5. All account access authentication is handled entirely by Google. Account security is guaranteed.
6. Your Bodyguard account data is guarded by the same entity you already trust -- Google.
7. The Bodyguard Application seamlessly integrates into the familiar Google experience.
The Bodyguard user account is necessary for the following reasons.
• Defines user identity within each user-specific Personal Security Network.
• Provides access to the user's contact information necessary to form the network of alliance members.
• Associates user location and security media saved to the cloud with the specific user.
• Maintains each user's subscription level information and payment details.
• Allows for easy peer-to-peer communication between the users within each Personal Security Network.
Creating Your Bodyguard Account
Creating a new Bodyguard user account is one of the first steps taken after the user downloads and installs the Bodyguard Application. The Application cannot proceed beyond this step until after the account is created.
Each time the Bodyguard Application opens, it searches the cloud database for a user account matching the currently logged in Google account. If a matching account is found, the Application proceeds to the next steps. Otherwise, the user is presented with an opportunity to create a new Bodyguard account to match the existing Gmail account.
If you, for some reason, use multiple Gmail accounts on your device, you can create a separate Bodyguard user account for each Gmail account you use, although there is no clear benefit to doing so.
The user must complete all of the mandatory steps necessary to create a valid Bodyguard account before anything else can be done with the Application.
To create a valid Bodyguard account, only the following information needs to be provided in the Personal Details section.
• First Name
This value is automatically retrieved from the associated Gmail account, but it can be changed to whatever the user desires. This is the first part of the name that other users in the associated Personal Security Network will see on their devices. This field cannot be left blank.
• Last Name
This value is also automatically retrieved from the associated Gmail account, and it also can be changed to whatever the user desires. This is the second part of the name that other users in the associated Personal Security Network will see on their devices. This field cannot be left blank.
• Email Address
This value is automatically filled in with the Gmail address associated with the Google account which will be tied to the newly created Bodyguard account. This value cannot be changed.
All of the other fields are optional. Below is the complete list of all optional fields in the Personal Details section.
• Secondary Email Address
This field allows the user to provide an additional email address, which can be freely updated by the user.
• Phone Number
This field allows the user to provide a personal phone number that can be used to contact the user when necessary.
The entire Financial Details section is optional, including:
• Name on Card
This value is automatically preloaded with the First Name, Last Name combination read from the associated Gmail account.
• Zip Code
This value must match the billing address associated with the user's Credit Card Number used for subscription purchases.
• Credit Card Number
This is the credit card number used to purchase subscriptions to the Personal Security Network Service provided by Bodyguard.
• MM/YY
Credit card expiration date.
• CVC
Credit card validation/verification code.
The entire Subscription Details section remains inactive until a valid Bodyguard account has been successfully created. Please refer to the Subscriptions Help section for the details on that topic.
Creating a new Bodyguard account can be as easy as simply accepting all of the default values and pressing the Update button in the lower right corner. Please note that the Update button automatically disappears when insufficient information has been entered to complete a section. Typically, once a section is being filled in with data, it must be completed fully before the Update button reappears.
When entering new information in the provided data fields, moving from one data field to the next, triggers automatic validation of the typed in data. If validation fails, an error is flagged on that input field describing the problem with the data. Please correct the failed value, or you will not be allowed to save the updated fields.
If you choose to enter your Financial Details at this stage, this information will automatically be pre-populated into the Stripe payment widget during the checkout process when purchasing a subscription. See the Subscriptions Help section for more details. You may choose to enter different information during the checkout procedure. If you do, and if the transaction succeeds, that information will overwrite whatever Financial Details have been stored previously.
You can come back and update your account information at any time, provided you are logged into that account using the Bodyguard sign-in procedure.
To guard sensitive information in your account, if your device is protected by a passcode, or biometric sensors, you will be asked to confirm your identity before being allowed to view the Bodyguard account information.
Deleting Your Bodyguard Account
You can choose to delete your Bodyguard account at any time. Simply select the Delete Entire Account menu item from the list displayed in the options menu after you successfully enter the MANAGE ACCOUNT page, accessible from the Main Menu.
This action will remove all personal information, location and security media data associated with your account from the cloud database. It will NOT automatically uninstall the Bodyguard Application. You will need to do that manually. Please note that uninstalling the Application from your device will NOT automatically delete your account. Your account remains in the cloud until you deliberately delete it.
As the account removal progresses you will be notified of the progress on the device's screen. Please wait until the entire process completes to be certain that the removal process succeeded. Once started, it is not possible to interrupt this process, or to reverse it. Once your data is removed from the cloud database, it is not possible to restore it.
After you delete your Bodyguard account you must wait a full 24 hours before you can recreate it for the same Gmail address.
There is no need to delete your Bodyguard account when upgrading to a new device. The same account will operate on multiple devices and even at the same time. See below.
Using Your Bodyguard Account
You may create and host multiple Bodyguard accounts on a single device, although that would be of limited utility and may be confusing to the designated alliance members within your Personal Security Network. Each account is billed separately and there is no way to split billing between different accounts.
Conversely, you may use the same account on multiple devices, although that too may prove confusing to your alliance members. Account usage data is aggregated among all the devices on which it is used. Therefore, there is only one billing cycle that is attached to the account, as a whole, and not to any particular device. Thus, it is not possible to separate usage by individual devices for the purposes of billing. It is possible, however, to see which location and media data was generated by which device. Please refer back to the Location and Media Help sections for the discussion of Device Filters.
