The Bodyguard, Virtual Defender Application and the Personal Security Network, developed by Intelligent Designs LLC, allow a group of individuals to set up and maintain a network of trusted associates with the goal of providing mutual security and situational awareness. Additionally, these tools can also assist with official investigations by providing authorities with physical evidence and access to historical data, if so desired by the owner of this data.
To set up the network each participant needs to download and install the Bodyguard Application and follow the instructions below.
Install the Application and accept all requests for permissions. This is important because the Application's core functionality depends on its ability to access the various capabilities provided by your smart device. There is a more comprehensive discussion of permissions and associated implications in the Permissions Help section.
Create an account using your Google email address and enter as much personal information as you desire. All of your personal information is always encrypted using strong encryption and securely stored on Google servers. When you purchase a subscription to the Personal Security Network Service your payment information is also encrypted and stored in the Google cloud database for your convenience. For more information regarding security of your account please refer to the Security Help section.
Bodyguard, Virtual Defender allows more than one account to exist on the same device. This follows the Google model that allows multiple accounts installed on one phone. Bodyguard assumes that the owner of the phone has unrestricted access to each account. Therefore, some of the data between different accounts may be shared. For instance, Google contacts from different Google accounts may appear in multiple separate Bodyguard accounts if these accounts are all accessed from the same device.
Bodyguard allows switching between multiple Bodyguard accounts on demand. To do so, simply log out of one account and log back in as a different user. Bodyguard functionality is severely limited when no user is logged in. In such instances the Application allows access only to the data stored locally on the device, and no cloud access to a security network is available.
If you intend to participate in the security network solely as someone's defending alliance member, you are not required to purchase any additional services either in the form of a monthly subscription, nor through a sponsorship by a participating sponsor. In this case, you will not have direct access to the Google cloud services, which require additional funding, but you will still be able to use some of the network features locally, and you will still be able to monitor your associates, friends, and family members that are part of your Personal Security Network. For more in-depth discussion of different subscription levels please refer to the Subscriptions Help section.
The next step in setting up your Personal Security Network is to choose your Alliance Members by going to the Manage Contacts menu item. A list of all known contacts associated with your Google account will be displayed. In that list you can select those contacts that you would like to add to your list of Alliance Members. After you are done choosing the members of your alliance, save the member list by pressing the pulsating Accept button. This action will create a group of Google contacts that can be accessed via the Alliance Members menu item.
By default, the system automatically creates an alliance member associated with the logged-in Google account. This provides a convenient way for the logged-in user to see what is actually being shared with other Alliance Members on the network.
In the Alliance Members menu item, you can now select a set of contacts that you would like to monitor or be monitored by, at any particular time. Please note that the action of activating a particular set of alliance members AUTOMATICALLY GRANTS EACH MEMBER immediate access to your shared cloud data, including your location and security media. Conversely, removing a contact from the list of activated members immediately revokes their ability to access your cloud data.
Once you have accepted your desired set of active members you will immediately see the active list prominently displayed on your HOME PAGE. Each row of the list will clearly identify the individual member and provide quick access to the associated person's cloud data, including last location, and any available security media stored in the cloud. Pressing on the alliance member's image icon will bring up additional contact information and allow quick access to the available communication methods.
If an Alliance Member in your activated members list has a valid Bodyguard account, their current status will be available for viewing on the right-hand side of the corresponding row. The member status is represented by a color-coded icon which can indicate one of the following conditions:
• Unknown
• Unavailable
• Offline
• Active
• Idle
• Busy
Additionally, the Status Icon can provide hints regarding other activity the Alliance Member may be engaged in, such as:
• Listening to Audio
• Displaying an Image
• Viewing a Video
When a member of your security alliance network is requesting monitoring of activity, the member Status Icon will indicate additional information.
Please refer to the SYMBOLS SUMMARY page, accessible from the Main Menu, using the Symbols Summary menu item, for a full list of available Status Icons and their meaning.
Please proceed to the Basic Operations Help section for further discussion of typical use-case scenarios.
