Sporting Blakesley encompasses the sports of cricket, tennis and football within Blakesley. We support the development of the next generation of players through coaching and training. We also bring the community together through events such as the free Easter Egg hunt we provide each year and the pensioners' lunch, plus the regular sporting fixtures throughout the year. We raise money to support these activities by regular subscriptions, an end of year dinner with auction and various fundraising events such as car rallies, the Easter duck race, family fun day and an annual Sevens tournament involving teams from around Northamptonshire and the surrounding area.
Our Constitution is available here.
Family Fun Day - thank you!
Thanks to all the volunteers that helped out to make this years family fun day another great success. It's a shame the British weather meant that the number of people in attendance was down on previous years, but it seemed that all had a great day.
Over 40 pensioners from the local villages attended the free Sporting Blakesley luncheon. On the menu this year was a hearty Ploughmans lunch, an assortment of home made puddings from the village and of course, a "few" glasses of wine were enjoyed. Thank you to our team of chefs and servers - everybody thought the food was excellent.
The dog show proved to be another popular event this year with over 50 dogs attending and more entries per category than any other year. Catherine and Paula managed the event with Catherine's famous alternative commentary adding to the relaxed atmosphere and making people smile. Thanks to our sponsors, Ian Bathe (Beaver Construction), Becky Price who kindly judged the show from Towcester Vets and Bakers Pet Food who supplied some fantastic prizes.
The bottle stall, raffle and Blakesley Bears tables were as popular as ever. Thanks to Lizzie Vaughan, Lee Penny, Anne Cunnignham, Jackie Stanbridge and Ann Milton for your kind support.
The raffle results were:
- 1st Prize - Ander Cockerill - £75 voucher for Browns of Blakesley
- 2nd Prize - David Smallman - £30 voucher for Browns of Blakelsey
- 3rd Prize - Lee Penny - £20 voucher for Browns of Blakesley
Nearest the Pin was won by a father and son combination - well done to James and Sam Wood who received a £20 and £10 voucher for Browns of Blakesley.
The basketball challenge was won by Stuart Bleazard who also receives a £20 voucher for Browns of Blakesley.
Lots of fun was had with the egg throwing competition that left quite a few people leaving the field needing a clean up and the children will have strong muscles after the continued Tug o' War sessions taking place all day.
Thank you to Manni who kindly sponsored our prizes for the day - Browns of Blakesley.
