1938   BRAHMAS

A rough and tumble collection of boys raised on hardscrabble farms and on the dusty streets of small town Bellville, born in the early 1920’s with the majority of their childhood spent in the Great Depression.  These tough boys came together under the direction of a 27 year old Economics instructor and his assistant to produce the only undefeated football season in Bellville High School history.  This Brahma team recorded 10 shutouts while averaging 40 points a game running the venerable Wing T offense.

If there had been a State Championship for the Class A division, they would have certainly been crowned champions.  Most of these young men left the football field and moved over to the battlefields of World War II after graduation, with two giving the ultimate sacrifice and several being held as prisoners of war.  These members of the 1938 Brahmas were the nucleus of what has been called the Greatest Generation.
