Bellville Chooses A Mascot

In 1929 the Brahma Bull was chosen as the official Bellville School District mascot

James Grawunder and Bubba Mewis would bring a tame Brahma Bull to the football games in the late 1940s.  The bull would kneel after being brought onto the field.  The spectators would cheer!

1960’s Snorting Bull

The bull appeared on the cover of the 1961 yearbook and continues to be used everywhere.

1970

The bull logo was placed into the tile floor when the high school was constructed in 1970.  It was tradition to prohibit people from stepping on the logo.  The immediate vicinity of the logo was cordoned off.

1970 Bull

A local rancher and Toyota dealer, Barry Galloway, gave the bull to the high school campus in the early 1970s.  For many years, everyone who came through the school's front doors was greeted by the bull.  Millions of pictures have been taken with the bull.

New Bull

The new bull was given as a gift for Mitchell Honeycutt's graduating class and in Mitchell's honor by a friend of the Honeycutt family.  Mitchell Honeycutt was a student in BISD and he died tragically in an accident before graduating.
