Welcome Consolidated School
1947-1965
In the fall of 1947, according to records, the patrons of Welcome Common School District #12 joined together to consolidate within the district and establish one school campus on land donated by Herman Blezinger, which is located approximately 1 ½ miles north of Bleiblerville on FM 2502 and Frueger Road. Children who had attended Leban, Salem, Concordia, and Victoria Schools were grouped together on a central campus and were housed in two separate one teacher buildings. One building was moved from Concordia and another from Salem School. There were 45 students at the new school.
Mr. J.A. Ahlhorn was the principal and taught grades 5 though 8 and Mrs. Erna Pomykal was the other teacher and taught grades 1-4. After the first year a bond was passed to build a new school.
Enrollment dropped and in 1969 all students were bused to West End Elementary School or Bellville.
