Germania School
1881-1938
On June 20, 1818, F. W. Bosse ceded, released, and conveyed to the Germania School community 2 3/50 acres of land to be used only for school purposes and as a cemetery for the community. In 1883, it is reported that the Germania School had an enrollment of 35 pupils
In most cases, early schools were held in churches, but in this case the school was used for a church as well. According to those who remember, the building looked like both a school and a church. It had a steeple or bell tower with a bell. Church services were held in Germania one Sunday of each month.
The Germania School continued to operate until the late 1930’s probably 1938. As was custom in many rural communities, teachers roomed and boarded with local families. In Germania it was most often the Richter and Boeker families.
