Buckhorn School District
1880-1947
July 31, 1880 Buckhorn school district was created. Four years later the Austin County Commissioners established the First 13 Original School districts in Austin County. Buckhorn was District #3. The Buckhorn District contained 39,729. In 1913, Buckhorn had 588 students and received $4,321.80 or $7.35 per student from state sources. Schools in the Buckhorn District #3 included Sempronius, Gilbert Chappel, Tottenham, Center Hill, Freitag, Ives Creek, Joe Cochran, Union Center, and Bradbury.
