This book is set in Oxford and features most of the usual characters. Peter is still intent on become a Roman Catholic. Lucy is studying hard to get her A' Levels and go off to medical school. Jonah is his usual irrepressible self, as he tries to discover the identity of the mysterious body that turns up beneath the organ in St Cyprian's church.

We also meet a few new characters, including forensic anthropologist Penelope Black, and get to know better some whom we've met briefly before, such as Parish Priest Father Damien and some of his congregation.
