There are fifteen Bernie Fazakerley Mysteries:
1. Two Little Dickie Birds: a murder mystery for DI Peter Johns and his Sergeant, Paul Godwin.
2. Murder of a Martian: Peter and Jonah solve a double murder and Peter meets Martin Reiss for the first time.
3. Grave Offence: Peter investigates an assault and a suspicious death, while Jonah is in rehab in the spinal injuries centre.
4. Awayday: a traditional detective story set among the dons of Lichfield College.
5. Death on the Algarve: a mystery for Bernie and her friends to tackle while on holiday in Portugal.
6. Mystery over the Mersey: a murder mystery set in Liverpool.
7. Sorrowful Mystery: Jonah investigates a child abduction and Peter embarks on a new journey of faith.
8. In my Liverpool Home: Bernie and her friends return to Liverpool to investigate a suspicious death in Aunty Dot’s Care Home.
9. Organ Failure: a body is discovered under the organ in St Cyprian’s Church and Jonah is called in to investigate.
10. Rainbow Warrior: One of their friends is injured in a hit-and-run incident and Jonah is convinced that this is attempted murder.
11. Admission of Innocence: Father Damien calls Peter and Jonah out of retirement to solve a murder case and prevent a miscarriage of justice.
12. Lethal Mix: Three of Lucy’s student friends are injured in an anti-Muslim hate crime in Liverpool. Jonah, Peter and Bernie assist Merseyside Police to bring their attacker to justice.
13. A Secret Gardener? Bernie’s friend Martin discovers a body in the Fellows’ Garden of his Oxford College.
14. Crowd of Witnesses: Jonah decides to write his memoirs, beginning with a murder investigation from 1982.
15. Lethal Quests: Bernie and Lucy are preparing for her wedding to Ibrahim, but the murder of a friend disrupts their plans.
Bernie also stars in two other novels:
Changing Scenes of Life: Jonah Porter’s life story, told through the medium of his favourite hymns.
Despise not your Mother: the story of Bernie’s quest to learn about her dead husband’s past.
There's a book of short stories, in which Peter narrates his side of the story:
My Life of Crime: the collected memoirs of DI Peter Johns. This includes some episodes that appear in other books, but told from a new perspective, as well as some completely new stories.
The Kenny Hughes Memorial Trilogy maps the path of PC Gavin Hughes and his wife, Chrissie, as they mourn the death of their son, Kenny.
Weed Killers (Christmas Mourning): published in March 2020, this novel describes the investigation into Kenny's murder.
Lost in Lockdown (May Mourning): published in 2021, this book explores how Gavin and Chrissie cope with the combination of grief at Kenny's death and being confined by the COVID-19 lockdown.
Victim Statements (Cold and Frosty Mourning): published in 2021, this focusses on the trial of Kenny's killers (delayed by the closure of Crown Courts during lockdown) and its impact on his parents.
In 2022 I started a new series in which Anna Davenport and Andy Lepage (now promoted to DI) tackle cases without the help of Jonah, who has finally really retired from the police service (although I'm sure he will butt in every so often!) So far, there are just two books:
Just Another Knife Crime provides Andy with his first opportunity to show his mettle as Senior Investigating Officer in a murder enquiry - until he discovers a conflict of interest and has to hand over to Anna!
Just Another Suicide continues the story (although it can also be read as a stand-alone novel) and presents Andy with yet more questions about how his personal and professional lives are becoming increasingly entangled.
