- The story of Lappaw was inspired by the folk song “yu lappaw” (the flower) and “yu taddan” (the advice). Where Romantic qualities of the Yogad lover are evident through the words “Yu lappaw” (The flower). The man addresses the woman he loves as the flower. The words bear exaggeration as in any courtship songs to describe the man’s love for the woman to the extent of saying that the lady is the only cure to his fatal wound. “Lappaw” is a story of marikit and her lover whom she loved most but end ed up into tragedy story and the story goes this way;
- Marikit was a lovely lady who fell deeply in love with a man, the man on the other hand, cherished her like a flower and showered her with love for it to bloom. Like some other sad love story, they fell apart because of the cheating issues of her lover who found another woman who was prettier than her. Marikit can’t take the pain she’s feeling it makes her think of things she shouldn’t do. But out of despair that marikit felt, she chose to end whatever she’s feeling. She took her life off by hanging herself under a tree, despite knowing that she was bearing a child. Since then, the soul of marikit never rested in peace because she always see ladies who are being cheated by guys who can’t be contented with just one woman. Her soul would go around the community and as a sign of her presence the petal flowers will be spread along with the wind. Marikit then, become a horrible soul who takes the heart (happiness) of those cheaters so she can avenge the people that was being hurt. Despite of being a horrible ghost, for others marikit a defender of people who was being oppressed because of love.
- As a response to the song Yu lappaw, Yu taddan was also included in creation of the story which contains the advice of a lady- to her friends- who experience falling into the superficial attitudes and deceptive demeanor of her suitor.
