Mission Statement
Our mission at the Belmar Junior Lifeguard Program is to cultivate the next generation of well-rounded water enthusiasts, empowering both young men and women. Through our program, we strive to instill a deep sense of confidence and promote the values of sportsmanship and lifeguarding on the Jersey Shore.
At the heart of our program are four guiding values that shape every practice, interaction, and competition:
Treat all coaches, teammates, beach staff, and beachgoers with kindness and courtesy.
Listen actively and follow directions the first time.
Keep language and behavior appropriate and positive.
Respect public spaces and natural resources, including the ocean and beach.
Wear your uniform with pride—it reflects our team and community.
Demonstrate sportsmanship, humility in victory, and grace in defeat.
Set an example for younger guards and the community.
Honor the traditions and responsibilities of lifeguarding.
Arrive on time, prepared with all necessary items (uniform, water, sunscreen, etc.).
Stay with your group and be aware of your surroundings.
Own your actions—make safe, smart choices.
Follow all land and water safety protocols.
Return borrowed or shared equipment to the correct place.
Clean up your space and leave the beach better than you found it.
Return to your group promptly after activities or drills.
Come back each day with a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
Bullying, teasing, or exclusion of others will not be tolerated.
There is zero tolerance for the possession or use of illegal drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or vaping products by any participant.
Any behavior that puts the safety or well-being of yourself or others at risk may result in immediate dismissal from the program.
Ensure timely drop-off and pick-up.
Communicate any health, scheduling, or behavioral concerns in advance.
Encourage and reinforce the core values at home.
Address questions or concerns directly and respectfully with staff.
We promote growth through accountability. If conduct expectations are not met:
Verbal reminder and redirection
Parent contact and/or temporary removal from activity
Suspension from the program
Dismissal from the program (no refund)
By participating in the Belmar Junior Lifeguard Program, all Junior Guards and their families commit to upholding these values and expectations, ensuring a safe, respectful, and rewarding summer for all.
