We Can All Do Behavior Analysis
We Can All Do Behavior Analysis
There are so many behavior analytic strategies that we can use in our personal lives. Sometimes we get stuck in thinking that ABA is for children with autism or adults with different developmental disabilities. While that is true, there are many things that we do daily that are actually evidence-based interventions.
For example, if I am feeling overwhelmed with the world around me, social media probably won’t help. I can change the environment, like in taking FB off my phone or redirecting MY OWN behavior by doing something else.
I can set up a Premack and “first (my undesired task) and then (my desired task).”
I can do a preference assessment and see what is the most potentially reinforcing activity at that specific time.
I can post sticky notes to show the next 2 tasks I will be doing and use my Google calendar to make sure I make it to appointments.
I can use contingencies of reinforcement that help me avoid sugar – and reinforce alternative behaviors that have me eating carrots instead of chips.
I can encourage forward movement using hi -probability request sequence or use shaping to teach myself how to make fettucine alfredo.
I can use alarms to remind me when to take a break and use a token economy to get my “10th yoga class for free!
I can do behaviors analysis. You can do behavior analysis too.
