Do you ever feel like you can't keep your students' attention? Or like no one wants to participate during class discussions? ASR is a tool for teachers to use with a whole group. It promotes interaction and attention. Let's discuss three types of ASR: choral responding, guided notes, and response cards.
Choral responding is a method in which the teacher provides a signal and students respond in unison. For example, the teacher may point or tap her pencil and the student all answer the question together.
Guided notes are worksheets with missing information for the student to fill in as they follow along.
Response cards are visuals students write their responses on and then show in unison, such as whiteboards.
There are many new apps or websites that make active student responding super easy to incorporate into your classroom and are motivating for students.
