WSISD Beginning Band

ANNOUNCEMENTS!
EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITY!
Record a video telling us why you signed up for band or why you love band! You may be featured on a recruiting video for next year's band students! Email videos to Mrs. Johnson at amanda.johnson@wsisd.net by Monday!
GRADES
Some of our students have not turned in their practice recording videos. The videos are the MAJOR portion of their grade each week. Please take a look at grades in CANVAS and make sure they are keeping up with their assignments as band is not a "Special" but a fully graded course.
QUARANTINED STUDENTS
If your child is sent home to quarantine but is not symptomatic or is currently attending school virtually, they should be attending our weekly ZOOM class for band. Please see the ONLINE LEARNING information tab at the end of the newsletter for more information.
WEEKLY PRACTICE VIDEO
Practice Video #3 is due by Monday, 2/1.
Students will record themselves practicing for 2-5 minutes and submit the video on Canvas.
Recordings may be of any material on their Practice Calendar or Essential Elements book. These videos DO NOT need to be perfect, they are intended to show us that students are practicing at home.
Suggestions for practice:
Use your tuner / metronome at 60 bpm.
Sit in a chair and tap your foot!
No need to speak in the video, just PLAY!
IT DOES NOT NEED TO BE PERFECT!
PRACTICE CALENDAR
Students will be practicing assignments that are written on their Practice Calendar located in the front of their band binder. This will also guide them on what to record for their Weekly Practice Video.
T-SHIRT PAYMENT REMINDER
If you ordered, but have not paid for your student's band t-shirt you may do so in their REVTRAK account. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we cannot receive cash/checks. Please visit the links below, if you have any payment issues contact a band director.
ONLINE LEARNERS
PLAY YOUR INSTRUMENT DAILY. Students should play along on their instruments with the videos in CANVAS Online Learning. If they cannot play the video, they must go back and do the previous assignment video again until mastered.

SCHOOL-OWNED INSTRUMENTS
This is for borrowed instruments through the school. If your student is a French horn, bassoon, oboe, tuba, or euphonium, be sure you filled out this before picking up an instrument. Instrument Usage Form.
PRIVATE LESSONS
Students have access to all of our lessons in Canvas. It is important for your child keeps up with these lessons so that when they return to in-person learning it is a smooth transition to the band classroom! Private lessons are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. bit.ly/brewerlessons
Ordering Instruments and Supplies
INSTRUMENT RENTALS
If you play the Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, or Percussion, you may get your quality instrument from the Bandwagon Music Store. Bandwagon will deliver your instrument to your school (in-person learners) or to your home (online learners).
**Please purchase the specified brands/models to ensure your student is set up for success!**

ORDERING INSTRUMENT SUPPLIES
Bandwagon is available to you for supplies and repairs. For online learners, Bandwagon can even arrange a minor repair at your house. The repair shop is completely mobile! If you are concerned about your child’s instrument, give them a call.
