ANDROID PRIVACY POLICY — BASIC AND ADVANCED GRAMMAR
Effective date: 17 September 2026
Last updated: 17 September 2026
This policy applies to the Android English Grammar edition of Basic and Advanced Grammar (the App), including earlier installed versions and the planned version 2.1.0 update. Privacy inquiries can be submitted through our Android Support page: https://sites.google.com/view/basicandadvancedgrammar/android-support . The separate Privacy Policy page for the iOS app remains at https://sites.google.com/view/basicandadvancedgrammar/privacy .
AT A GLANCE
You can use the App without a developer account. Learning progress is kept in private App storage, not on a developer-operated learning server. Optional speaking practice in version 2.1.0 and later uses the device microphone and speech-recognition service only when you request it. Google Play handles Premium subscriptions offered in version 2.1.0 and later. Free users may see Google ads; version 2.1.0 and later applies the restricted settings described below. Recognized Premium users do not see in-App ads. Google and selected device service providers may process data as explained below. The developer does not receive full payment-card details.
LOCAL LEARNING INFORMATION
The App stores your selected level and exam goal, lesson and vocabulary activity, reading and quiz results, correct and incorrect answers, mistake-notebook entries, mastery estimates, review dates, streaks, and locally cached Premium status. Pronunciation practice can save the recognized text of an incorrect spoken answer in the local mistake notebook so you can review it. On an update from the earlier Android app, the App may read existing local best-score records and import them into its local progress view; it does not send those scores to a developer server. The developer generally cannot identify, retrieve, or restore these local records.
The App does not offer its own cloud sync or learning account. Depending on your Android and Google backup or device-transfer settings, local App data may be included in a backup or transferred to another device. Google or the selected backup provider handles those copies under its own policies. You can remove the active local copy through an available in-App reset, Android's Clear storage control, or uninstalling the App. Backup copies may remain until removed or expired under the provider's rules.
MICROPHONE, SPEECH RECOGNITION, AND VOICES
Speaking practice is optional. When you start it, the App asks for microphone permission and passes live audio to Android's speech-recognition service. The App prefers an available on-device recognizer. If one is unavailable or lacks the requested language, it can fall back to the recognition service configured on your device, which may be operated by Google or another installed provider and may use a network connection. The service returns recognized words to the App for comparison with the prompt. The App does not make or keep a raw-audio archive or upload raw recordings to a developer-operated server. Your selected recognition provider may process audio and related data under its own privacy terms. You can deny or revoke microphone permission in Android Settings; other lessons remain available, but spoken-answer comparison requires permission and a working recognition service.
For playback, the App asks your installed Android text-to-speech engine to read words, examples, and prompts. The selected engine may be supplied by Google or another provider. Voice downloads, availability, and any provider-side text or audio processing depend on your device, settings, and the engine's terms. The App does not operate a speech server.
ADVERTISING FOR FREE USERS
The App checks its available Premium entitlement before starting Google's consent flow or Mobile Ads. When an active Premium entitlement is recognized, the App suppresses banners and interstitials and does not intentionally make new ad requests. Free users may see Google ads. The App does not send local learning records or speech input as ad-targeting data.
The App is designed for learners aged 13 and older and does not ask users to disclose their ages. In version 2.1.0 and later, it conservatively marks unknown-age ad requests for child age treatment, sets a maximum G content rating, requests non-personalized ads, and passes an under-age-of-consent flag to Google's User Messaging Platform. Version 2.1.0 and later removes Android Advertising ID and Privacy Sandbox ad-targeting permissions from its manifest. The earlier version-code-20 release declares Android Advertising ID and AdServices permissions, so older installations may still use those identifiers until updated. You can manage or reset Android Advertising ID in your device's privacy or ads settings. Google may show a privacy-choice screen where required. Declining a choice or an ad being unavailable does not block lessons.
Restricted ads are not data-free. Google Mobile Ads and its advertising or service partners may process an IP address (which can indicate approximate location), app launches and ad interactions, delivery and performance diagnostics, fraud-prevention signals, and permitted app- or device-scoped identifiers. An Android Advertising ID may be processed by earlier installed versions; version 2.1.0 and later removes the relevant ID permissions. Google states that data collected by its Mobile Ads SDK is encrypted in transit with TLS. Google and its partners retain and handle their data according to their own policies, including after you become Premium. See https://policies.google.com/privacy .
Earlier installed releases, including version code 20, also include Google Play Services and Firebase Analytics. Those services may process an app-instance identifier, App session and screen-view events, and approximate location inferred from a masked IP address for analytics and service measurement. Version 2.1.0 and later does not include the App-owned Firebase Analytics integration. Updating stops new collection by the removed integration, but Google may retain information processed by an earlier version under its own retention and privacy policies. See https://policies.google.com/privacy .
SUBSCRIPTIONS AND PURCHASES
The App offers monthly and yearly auto-renewable Premium plans through Google Play Billing. Google Play processes payment, renewal, cancellation, and refunds. The App receives product identifiers, purchase state, purchase-token or transaction evidence, and entitlement information needed to unlock, refresh, or restore Premium; a limited status may be cached locally. The developer does not receive your full card number or Google Account password, and App-owned code does not send purchase events to a developer-operated server. Manage or cancel a plan at https://play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions . Uninstalling the App does not cancel it. The first mock test for each exam is permanently free content, not a timed subscription trial.
SUPPORT, USE, AND SHARING
If you contact support, we receive the information you choose to provide, which may include your email address, device and Android version, App version, screenshot, and issue description. Do not send passwords, full card details, or voice recordings. We use correspondence to respond, resolve issues, maintain necessary records, meet legal obligations, and protect the App from abuse. We do not sell local learning progress, support correspondence, or speech input.
Google provides Android distribution, Play Billing, optional backup and speech or voice services, consent management, and advertising. A different speech or voice provider installed on your device may also process the text or audio you request it to handle. Service providers may process information in countries other than yours under their own transfer, security, and retention rules. We may disclose support information if required by valid law or to protect rights and safety.
RETENTION, CHOICES, AND SECURITY
Local learning records remain until you reset or remove App data, uninstall the App, or erase the device; device backups may retain a copy separately. The App does not retain raw voice recordings. Google Play retains purchase records under its policies, and Google and its advertising partners retain ad data under their policies. We retain support communications only as long as reasonably needed for the request, legal obligations, or security, then delete or anonymize them where feasible.
You can remove local records, manage microphone permission and the selected speech/voice services in Android Settings, use available Google privacy choices, adjust Android backup and advertising settings, and manage subscriptions in Google Play. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, or a copy of personal information we handle. Use the Support page above for privacy requests. We may need to verify a request and may retain information where law or security requires it. Learning data is kept in Android's App sandbox; Google and other providers apply their own security measures. No electronic storage or transmission is completely secure.
CHILDREN AND CHANGES
The App targets learners aged 13 and older. Some teenagers may be considered children under local law. The App does not require a profile, date of birth, contact list, or precise location. In version 2.1.0 and later, unknown-age Android ad requests receive child age treatment and non-personalized, G-rated ads as described above; earlier installed versions may use different advertising safeguards until updated. A parent or guardian can request deletion of a child's support correspondence through the Support page, subject to legal or security retention needs. We may update this policy as features, providers, or requirements change and will show a revised date on the public page.
