In this section you will find links to descriptions of the Teams for Charlie Medical, how the Nurse First system will be used and about the Levels of Care in Charlie Medical. You will also find information about the Emergency Response Team (ERT). This is actually a direct result of a sudden cardiac arrest that occurred in a Base Camp in 2017. We were fortunate to meet this survivor at a meeting for the WSJ in Texas in 2019. Because of that event the ERT was born. As always.....Be Prepared!
We are pleased to welcome back Mental Health Services! Such an important team to everyone and we hope they will again have a dedicated tent for their services with Charlie Medical as well as a deciated room in acute care.
Please review before reporting to the NSJ. This is to familiarize you with some changes from NSJ 2023 and give you a chance to ask questions or bring questions with you to the NSJ that can be answered during orientation. If you are new to Charlie Medical hopefully this will give you a feel for how things will work.
In 2019 CM created a "fast track" unit to expedite care and have more acute rooms available. It was repeated in 2023, though we were given a much smaller tent. Fast track managed the sore throat, blisters, minor abrasions and lacerations etc. We achieved the goal of getting the scouts cared for and back out to enjoy the Jamboree.
We have had patients overnight before, what the policy will be in 2026 is pending. We do put motion activated lights in the port a potties for use during the night. Helping a patient with a flashlight under your chin is well......
Part of the after action report addressed the need to have more small items dealt with within the troop and not coming to the medical tent for things like blisters. Think, if you were a parent at home and your child presented with a minor complaint, would you treat at home, take to a walk in clinic, go to the doctor or go to the ER, so if you'd treat it at home then stay in the troop and treat in the troop. Its also a teachable moment for the scout about a blister and how to prevent and how to care for it. Also, requesting a designated health care person in each troop with at least WFA. The SM handbook did an excellent job in 2023 addressing this issue and each troop had a medical adult It was wonderful. Did we still get blisters?? Yup, but not nearly as many.

Home away from Home: Tents are provided for staff and no personal tents are allowed. The Key 3 make the tent assignments. A CM staff person will be there to welcome you home and show you to your new address. Each tent is identified with a sign with the tent number clearly displayed. You will live on Band Aid Blvd. We do not know how many per tent or what kind of tents will be provided. We will keep you posted. Feel free to bring decorations if you like for your home away from home. Small things like a door mat is helpful when it rains, disposable plastic 6 foot party table cloths to cover your bunk and belongings and a tarp for the tent top in case the tents leak again, or a rug on the floor for comfort. Many bring a camp chair to relax. It is up to you. Not required! Make it your own.
Staff Break Area:
We create a staff break area for everyone. We do have a Keurig pot to make coffee and a hot water pot for hot water. Feel free to bring your favorite pods and some to share if you would like, same for tea or hot chocolate. We had sun tea last Jamboree and hope to have it again. Feel free to bring any snacks youd like to share. We do bring PB&J and bread in case you need a snack! In the past we have had a full refrigerator with freezer on top for staff and patient foods and a small fridge for medications that is locked. Again we have new management so we will let you know when we know. We did have licorice wars as it doesnt melt and is a good sweet treat. I hate to admit Twizzlers was preferred over Red Vines (a west coast company) but wow the flavors coming out!!! Stay tuned. In 2023 (you will see a photo) we were given plastic cheese and canned bean dip yet only chickpea chips CM got creative and with a friend going into town made and awesome bean dip with tortilla chips for all to enjoy!
Storage
We have plastic shelves for you to put you backpack and we have hooks we scatter about to hang jackets on so the can dry if wet but will not end up on the groud. We also have a couple of cabinets .
