Seniors Are Vital to Cold Lake
Our seniors are at the heart of Cold Lake. They built this community, and they continue to make it stronger every day. Over the past four years, I’m proud of the work this council has done for seniors, and I’m proud to have been part of it. Together, we’ve taken steps to make sure seniors feel supported, included, and valued in our city.
What We’ve Done Since 2021
Property Tax Relief
We expanded the Seniors’ Homeowner Tax Rebate Program so more low-income seniors qualify automatically. No extra paperwork, no added hoops to jump through. Each year, we’ve kept money in the budget to make sure the seniors who need the help most are getting it.
Supporting Seniors’ Groups and Events
Through FCSS and grant funding, we’ve been able to support the Cold Lake Seniors’ Society and other groups. That’s meant more activities during Seniors’ Week and beyond—painting classes, games, yoga, meals, and other events that bring people together and fight isolation.
Age Friendly Cold Lake Society
We’ve provided funding to Age Friendly Cold Lake so they can keep doing important outreach and roll out new programs like dementia-inclusive community training. These are the kinds of efforts that make Cold Lake a place where seniors feel safe and cared for.
Seniors’ Housing
The Cold Lake Lodge, run by the Lakeland Foundation, has continued to give seniors an affordable housing option with meals, recreation, and support. As a council, we’ve backed this with funding and advocacy to make sure it stays sustainable for the future.
Looking Ahead
There’s still more to do. I want to keep building on this progress by:
Expanding programs that help seniors age in place.
Keeping recreation and community programs affordable.
Supporting more outreach and caregiver programs to fight isolation.
Why It Matters
When seniors are doing well, our whole city does better. Their experience, knowledge, and community spirit are part of what makes Cold Lake such a special place to live. If I’m re-elected, I’ll keep working hard to make sure seniors in our community get the respect and support they deserve.
