Module Aim

The aim of this module is to introduce students to the main principles and challenges of prose translation. The module focuses on different types of prose, narrative structure, character voice, tone, and stylistic features. Students will learn how to translate prose texts while preserving meaning, style, atmosphere, and the individuality of characters.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this module, students will be able to:

• define prose translation and explain its main features;

• identify different types of prose and their translation requirements;

• analyze narrative voice, character speech, and tone in prose texts;

• apply translation strategies for preserving style and readability;

• translate short prose extracts with attention to meaning, register, and character identity;

• justify translation decisions using appropriate terminology.
