LITERARY TRANSLATION

 Literary translation is the process of translating texts that are considered literary, such as novels, poems, short stories, and plays. This form of translation not only focuses on converting words from one language to another but also aims to preserve the original tone, style, and cultural nuances of the text. It often involves a deep understanding of the source language’s idioms, emotional resonance, and aesthetic qualities. 

The course incorporates literary works and their translations to analyze themes, character development, and cultural context; pairing original texts with their translations to discuss differences in interpretation and style; encouraging students to translate short passages themselves to engage creatively with language; using translated works to introduce diverse cultures and perspectives; inviting professional translators to discuss their processes and the significance of literary translation; and exploring theories of translation and their implications for literary texts.
