Digital Divide
The socioeconomic and other disparities between those people who have opportunities and skills enabling them to benefit from digital resources, especially the internet, and those who do not have these opportunities or skills. (Dicitionary.com, 2026)
Emerging Technology:
A term generally used to describe a new technology, but it may also refer to the continuing development of an existing technology; it can have slightly different meaning when used in different areas, such as media, business, science, or education. (Winton & Strawn LLP, 2026)
Working on these two projects pushed me to think carefully about how and where I research information. For the first project, I noted the importance of looking at multiple perspectives and reliable sources, especially researching another country other than my own like Portugal. It isn’t enough to just find general information but dig into the differences between urban and rural areas that helped me understand how access to technology isn’t equal everywhere. It’s important to organize information so that comparisons made sense to the reader of the presentation.
For the second project, I choose a topic related to my interest in mortuary science: Natural Organic Reduction also known as “terramation”. With this topic, I must keep in mind how to present complex and unfamiliar ideas in a way that is respectful, engaging and easy for others to understand, especially since this topic relates to death which can be triggering and sensitive.
Overall, these projects are perfect examples that strong research involves using credible sources, critical thinking when it comes to the information and tailoring how to present it depending on the topic and scope.
