By definition, collaboration is "The ability to work productively and equitably while valuing others in diverse educational settings"
Olivia Wendell Holmes sums up this idea with the quote, "Many ideas grow better when transplanted into another mind than the one where they sprang up". I agree with this concept and believe it is essential as educators, and as students that we are collaborating and working through our ideas and learning with one and another.
How to Become a Better Collaborator
Collaboration in the Classroom
Collaboration is one of the keys to fostering academic success in the classroom, while also helping to cultivate empathy, understanding, and a sense of belonging among students.
Regarding the inclusion of children with special needs, I strongly believe in the model of an inclusive education that welcomes students of all abilities into the classroom setting. I believe it can be beneficial to all students to learn to work with people of differing abilities, in the classroom.
Reflecting on insights from the book "Everyday Antiracism", by Mila Pollock, I have recognized the importance of teaching children from diverse cultural backgrounds how to collaborate with each other respectfully. This can be achieved through fostering open dialogue, promoting cultural awareness, and providing opportunities for students to learn about, and celebrate each other's unique perspectives and backgrounds.
