2022-2023
For the semester of Fall 2022, I was not able to be placed in a classroom for a number of miscommunication errors and mishaps. Despite this, I was able to spend time at Venetia Valley K-8 School working with 6th, 7th, and 8th graders for another Service Learning class. Being in middle school confirmed for me that I would prefer to work with younger students rather than older ones. It also taught me that Covid is still having a major impact on students. Many of the students in the Middle School have not been a part of a normal classroom since they were in 3rd or 4th grade. This is a very large developmental gap and was very apparent in the behavior issues that were occurring at school.
In the Spring of 2023, I began working as an after-school program counselor at Mary E. Silvera Elementary. I worked with students in grades TK-5th and help tutor them, as well as guide them in Art and Science activities. This job has taught me real-life classroom management skills and how to guide a class of 40 students during a lesson.
2023-2024
For the Fall semester of 2023, I have been placed in a Kindergarten classroom at Mark Day School and observed 20+ hours here. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in Ms. Reilly's class, and feel as though I have learned an abundance of classroom management techniques in one semester alone, as well as found my love of teaching KR. The students are ready to learn and excited about all things Alphabet and Writing!
2023-2024
For the Spring semester of 2024 I was placed in Ms. B's resource room at Bahia Vista Elementary School. This observation consisted mostly of working with students in groups of 2-5 on phonics-based reading and writing lessons, and students from 2nd-5th grade. I found it extremely interesting to see the behind-the-scenes work that specialist teachers do, and what it looks like for a student to be pulled out of their everyday classroom. During this semester I also focused on getting to know one student particularly, and learned in-depth about ADHD and Dyslexia. Working with students who have special needs was an extremely valuable experience and taught me many insights that I will carry with me into my education career.

2024-2025
For the Fall semester of 2024, I was placed in Ms. Hill's Kindergarten classroom at Sun Valley Elementary. We have spent the semester learning about Living and Non-living things in science, and honing in phonics, handwriting, letter identification, and counting (math)! Being in this classroom has been nothing short of informational and rewarding. I spent many days pulling small groups for reading and working in small groups with Spanish-speaking students. This semester taught me how to work with students with special needs in the regular classroom and I was fortunate enough to see one student with ASD, in particular really blossom in the class with his social skills and classroom behavior.
I feel like I have really gotten to know these students this semester and I'm super excited to be returning in the Spring! Ms. Hill has taught me an abundance of classroom management techniques as well as given me opportunities to teach lessons and experience everyday responsibilities like taking the class to different places throughout the day and picking them up in the morning or from recess. I have gotten to truly learn the behind the scenes of being a kindergarten teacher.
