Nearpod is a platform of tools for teachers. It has features like adding an audio recording to slides and opportunities to insert games, 3D images, and video. Not only can you upload your own content, Nearpod curates a library of activities and lesson ideas that can get your presentation off to a great start.
Nearpod offers a boost to educators in Domain 1: Planning and Preparation. It fits under the subheading Applying Knowledge of Content and Pedagogy. The site itself displays this knowledge in many sample lessons that are helpful, working with a standard, to suggest developmentally appropriate content and games.
ISTE Standard for Students 1.1 specifies an Empowered Learner striving to attain clear and measurable goals in customized learning environments. Nearpod provides those elements and adapts to the user, allowing students to complete an activity at their own pace for example. Nearpod immediately provides feedback to improve practice, just as the standard advocates.
In my classroom, I could use Nearpod presentations to introduce a topic through videos, give students practice through interactive activities, and even test their knowledge through informal quizzes. I don't think I would use it because it is inferior to Lumio, which has all the same uses with even more features and options and was easier to use.
