Considering 2007 as a magical year for great films that make everything included as an instant classic, “Taare Zameen Par” (Every Child is Special), is an Indian movie produced and directed by Aamir Khan in the said year which combines heartwarming storytelling with a touching message pertaining to education and learning differences. This goes through the journey of an eight-year old boy named Ishaan, who was suffering from a learning disability known as dyslexia. Despite having that, he is filled with joy and imagination. He has talents in the field of creativity and art. However, his parents do not seem to appreciate it because, as observed in a typical household, they intentionally focus their attention more on his brother who, for them, is smarter. He cannot cope well with every academic activity given by his school, for he views all letters and numbers as if they are moving or dancing. Additionally, he cannot write correctly since, whenever he attempts to, all the letters and numbers seem to appear inverted from his point of view.
As a result of Ishaan’s difficulties in school, his parents decided to transfer him to a new school that they think is the most suitable way for him to learn better. They didn’t consider the child’s feelings even though that new school was far away from home. Obviously, they do not care if that will affect most of his well-being. And so, Ishaan had a hard time coping and adjusting to the new learning environment. Painting became his only stress reliever. Out of the blue, Ram Shankar Nikumbh introduces himself to the scene as an art teacher. This is where the film’s highlights began. He portrayed how a traditionally practiced and effective teaching must be done. He makes sure to always fuel the students’ fire by encouraging his students to use their imagination. To add up, his character becomes a great tool of help for Ishaan’s transformation, highlighting the fact of how important understanding and nurturing one’s individual talents are.
The film’s visuals appeared to be colorful and engaging, reflecting how imaginative and creative the world of every child is, not just its young protagonist, Ishaan. The animations and musical components were seen as prominent throughout the wholeness of the film, making it a strategic and effective way of captivating the attention of the viewers as well as making a great connection between them and the characters. Truly, musicality in every Indian film pours an additional point into a film.
Overall, “Taare Zameen Par” (Every Child is Special) is a captivating emotional movie that aims to spread a message that every child in this world has unique potentials, skills, and abilities that has an opportunity to unleash. This, as well, bravely addresses the impact of learning disabilities and provides an analysis of conventional education methods, recommending a kind of teaching approach that is more gentle, empathetic, and effective to all kinds of students. With its mixture of influential performances from the cast as well as the emotional, meaningful, and socially relevant theme of the movie, this makes it a must-watch for audiences of all ages.
