"𝐀𝐦 𝐈 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐕𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐫 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐨 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲?"
What a thought to ponder on. Before answering that question, one must ask oneself, "would it define who you are?" The answer is yes and no. I've had my fair share of moments that have been this very question. Do I want to be the villain or hero of the story? Until the real question was, am I ready to be the villain or hero of the story? People will always have a narrative of who you are and that truth lifted a weight off my shoulders. I didn't have to care so much about how people would perceive me because the important thing was that I knew my definition of who I was in the story.
As people, we will always be both. It is a matter of accountability. As the villain, we will make decisions that will hurt, intentional or not, it will hurt. We cannot change that, we do not need to defend the actions that had been done; if you knew why you had to do it, then the answer is clear enough. As the hero, you will be admired for the authenticity but no one will truly understand the decisions that had to be made just for this pedestal; a pedestal one never asked nor hoped for.
To be accountable for one's actions is never easy. Maybe, just maybe your definition of who you are may be wrong, still needs improvement but if it is how you define who you are, then so be it. People may fault you for that but knowing who you are is the very thing that keeps us sane so hold on to it. It is already so difficult to exist and breathe as it is so do not lose yourself just because you are terrified to be perceived in a bad light.
You will be the villain and hero in someone's story. You are a villain and hero in the story. It is not a terrible thing. It is the truth. Ask yourself the real question, are you ready to be the villain and hero in the story? In the end, is the definition of yourself the truth or a denial of your true nature.
