University Visit / 大学訪問

目的 / Purpose

商工会の方を学校に招き、学生と日本語で交流していただくことで、学生の日本語学習への意欲を高める。目的は、ビジネス日本語や企業文化の学習ではなく、企業訪問よりカジュアルな雰囲気で、「先生以外の大人」と日本語を使い、会話を楽しむことです。商工会の方達も、余暇の過ごし方や好きな食べ物など、カジュアルな会話を楽しんでくださっています。企画の参考になれば幸いです。

School visits aim to raise students’ motivations for Japanese study through interactions with members of

the local Japanese community, not necessarily business personnel. Its focus is placed on enjoying

Japanese conversations with adult native speakers other than teachers in a more relaxed setting, instead

of learning about business culture. Shokookai representatives have enjoyed talking about topics more

approachable to students such as favorite pastimes, favorite foods, language study, etc, and expressed

the desire to keep it that way. I hope this information helps when you plan your school visit.

スタイル / Style

60-90分ほど、少人数 (3-5人)のグループを作って対話形式で交流。

授業時間内でも、それ以外の時間でも、先方のご都合が合えばご対応願えます。

Students will have a conversation with Shokookai representatives in a small group of 3-5 people for

60-90 minutes. Visits can happen during your class time, or outside of the class time, as long as the

schedule works for the representatives.

トピック / Topics

以下の二つの形式から一つ、お選びください。

Please choose one from the two options below.

A.カジュアルに自由な会話を楽しむ / A free style conversation on a casual topic

B.トピックを決めてのディスカッション / A more-structured discussion on a specific topic

過去のトピックは以下のとおりです。

• 日米の文化の違い

• 国際的な会社で仕事をするためにした準備

• カルチャーショックとその乗り越え方

• 次の世代に期待すること

• 日系企業で働きたい場合のアドバイス、など。 (複数でも可)

⭐️企業訪問のように専門性の高い質問を準備するところまでは期待されていません。「働き方」や「アメリカでの生活」など日常会話的な要素をもっと取り入れてほしいと先方から要望があります。

Some past topics have included...

• Cultural differences between Japan and the States

• What they have done to prepare themselves to work in an international company

• Culture shocks they’ve experienced and how they overcame them

• What they expect for the next generation

• Advice for working for Japanese companies, etc...(you can choose multiple topics)

⭐️Unlike Company Visits, they don’t expect students to be able to talk about anything that requires a

deeper level of knowledge about their business or Japanese business worlds. Again, they’d like to keep

School Visits more relaxed, casual events.

ターゲット / Target Students

原則日本語学習者ですが、例えば日本文化の授業を取っている学生に英語で交流していただく、日本からの留学生を巻き込む、なども場合によってはご検討頂けるそうです。

In principle, learners of Japanese. However, we are open to suggestions, such as interactions in English with students taking Japanese culture class but not Japanese language class, and interactions with Japanese international students interested in working in the States in the future.

参加ご希望の先生は / If you are interested in participating

以下の情報を1月15日までにニューサム(satomih@lclark.edu)までお送りください。

1.学校名、ご担当者のお名前とコンタクト先

2.訪問希望時期(冬、春、秋のどの学期か。具体的な月、時間等が分かれば明記してください。希望日を3日ほど挙げて頂けますと助かります。また、先方の準備期間を考慮し、訪問一ヶ月前までにはご連絡するのが望ましいので、冬学期の訪問は早くて2月下旬となります。)

3.自由会話 または ディスカッション? (いずれにしても、だいたいのトピックや内容を教えていただけると助かります。)

4.ターゲットの学生と、大体の人数

5.使用言語

Please send the following information to me (satomih@lclark.edu) by January 15th.

1.Your school, contact person and their email address

2.Preferred time for a visit (Winter term? Spring term? Fall term? If you know more specific information

as to what months, what day of the week, what time, etc, please let me know. If you could give me three

preferred dates, it would be very helpful. Since Shokookai needs at least a month to get ready for

each visit, the earliest possible visit would be late Feburary. )

3. A freestyle conversation on a casual topic or a more-structured discussion on a specific topic (either

way, please let us know what sort of topics would be of your interest.)

4. Student information (what classes and what level? expected number of students?)

5. Language to use

先生方からご要望を頂いてから、商工会にご要望内容お伝えし、その後、さらに具体的に話を進めてまいりま

す。先方のご都合により、ご希望内容全ては実現できない場合がございます。また、原則、一学期に二校まで

の訪問となります。ご了承いただけますと幸いです。

After receiving your application, we’ll discuss your request with Shokookai. Please note that they may

not be able to meet all of the requests. Also, they prefer to keep their visits to twice a semester. We

appreciate your understanding.
