The Association of Teachers of Japanese in Oregon (ATJO), founded in 1987, aims to strengthen the network between all teachers of Japanese language and culture in Oregon through workshops, a seasonal newsletter, and involvement with other professional organizations like:
American Association of Teachers of Japanese (AATJ)
The Confederation in Oregon for Language Teaching (COFLT)
Shōkōkai of Portland
Japan-America Society of Oregon (JASO)
Consular Office of Japan in Portland
As of 2021, Oregon has had the 5th largest number of Japanese learners in the United States.
Our members include teachers of college, high school, middle school, and elementary programs throughout the state, and we welcome teachers of Japanese language programs that are outside of the traditional school setting.
