Clicker 7 encompasses a number of different technologies to assist students with their writing. One of the most frequently used is Predictor, a word predictor that suggests words based on the context of students' writing. This technology helps students to focus on the writing process, rather than spelling and typing. The SoundsLike technology will predict words that have the same beginning sound as the letters that are typed, even if the traditional spelling does not include that letter pattern (ex. predicting "football" if a student types "fut"). Clicker7 also includes word banks for different categories to help students select the proper words needed to construct their sentences.
Another interesting and useful feature helps students build sentences at a level appropriate to their skills. For beginning readers and writers, the app will have students click on each word in a pre-constructed sentence so that they get the experience of putting the individual words together to build a sentence. As students get more advanced, Clicker7 will mix up the order of the words in a sentence so that students can work on syntax and determining what makes sense. There are also more difficult options as students continue to progress, supporting all types of learners with proper sentence construction.
