PODD Communication

Pragmatic Organization Dynamic Display (PODD) is a book or a device that includes symbols and words to support nonverbal communication. Direct access PODD communication books are designed so that the user is pointing to the words and symbols. If a person cannot point to the symbols with his or her hand, there are also alternative access PODD communication books that can be used via eyegaze, picking up/moving picture cards, or through the assistance of another individual. There is typically a trial and error period to evaluate the different types of PODD that may benefit a person in order to select the modifications that are best suited for that person's skills and needs.
