Kami is a PDF annotation Google app. The occupational therapist at Doolittle Elementary School in Cheshire, CT, Deb Woodson, considers Kami to be a "PDF interaction technology," explaining that it allows students to access PDF files in ways that are otherwise not possible. It is integrated into Google Classroom and the G Suite for Education when using the premium (paid) version. Teachers can post Kami assignments in a Google Classroom and students can type directly onto PDF versions of worksheets, graphic organizers, etc. Kami then saves a copy of the annotated document to the user's Google Drive account. This application is helpful for all students, but is especially beneficial for students whose disabilities make handwritten assignments difficult.
The free version of Kami allows users to highlight, underline, and strikethrough existing text on a PDF. Users can also add text, comment, and draw shapes. The premium version adds in other features such as inserting images, video/audio annotations, Google Classroom and Schoology integrations, text-to-speech, speech-to-text, and auto save.
