-meeting set up with one mentor for wednesday, working on getting meetinig set up with second mentor - don't really know what to ask them but I'll figure it out
-very close to having the first puzzle (basically a big fake circuit board with wires that connect through magnets) completely finished so it can be tested
-have more compartments made, including one that opens with a servo instead of the key tool
-figured out a simple, easy and reliable method for hinged compartments without using actual hinges
-have arduino and p5.js code almost connected (got countdown timer working)
-have fuses (3d printed pieces that hold resistors) modeled and am testing different options for electrical connections
-show partially complete circuit board puzzle to see how people will expect to interact with it and what they see first when they look at it
-show color wheel to see how people use it and if they can get the correct information from it
-have buttons in a panel for people to interact with the simple launch sequence puzzle (just a note and some buttons)
-show a fuse with a box labeled fuse box to see if people will connect what it is meant to be
-added the finished lens as a red herring
-people loved the color wheel! Not entirely sure why, they just said it was cool. It was the first thing people interacted with, and they immediately understood how to compare numbers and colors using it.
-I understand why people do escape rooms together. One person was very unmotivated and didn't really want to try to solve anything, but said that if a freind was with them they would have tried more and it would be more fun
-I need to glue the screws on my locks because people like forcing things open, also come up with a way to let people know that they shouldn't be touching something that doesn't ruin immersion too much
-if there is something I expect might break, I need to make it better because it will break
-if people see something that might fit with something else, they will assume it does and try using it that way before looking for other options
-there is a range of opinions on hints, so it is probably best to give people the option to get hints when they want one, but maybe put a limit on the number, and start out with vague hints
-having sequential puzzles like mine is built for will make some things a lot easier - people were overwhelmed by everything at once, and didn't know if one thing was supposed to be used for one or another puzzle
-if people know to look through the red lens, they will look at everything
The most consistent thing I'm learning is that I don't need to hold people's hands through this. If they'e doing an escape room, they probably want the challenge, and they'll probably be in a group so everyone combines their skills. I expect to have to make things harder, not easier.
-so close to getting floors...I have material from someone but I don't have it yet, so hopefully will get it friday
-print constellation cards (part of puzzle 2)
-print more compartments
-make color wheel
-make fuses
-finish first puzzle
