-90% finished with 1 puzzle module
-about to complete another puzzle
-have working locks and tool bits
-Have plans for getting flooring pieces
Had 5 groups/individuals interact with parts from an almost complete puzzle, including a locked compartment, 2 tool bits, a red lens with a coded screen, and a key. They were given no explanation other than what they wouldn't be allowed to interact with, and asked to talk out loud as they interacted with the objects.
Takeaways:
-consider the design of the lens and how that can lead people into knowing the right way to use it
-people will try to open the drawers all the way -> make sure they either come out smoothly or don't come out at all
-the letters on the data chips and the coded screen can be hard to read but people did figure it out by process of elimination, so while a change may help, it is not necessary and actually leads to it feeling more like a puzzle
-watch out for color coordination issues with people who are color blind
-need a handle on compartments that are supposed to be pulled out
-the orientation and use of the key is confusing, and the design on the top may be too intricate (looks like it means something)
-copper tape often leads people to make connections when they see two pieces on different objects, even if those objects don't go together -> be careful where that tape is used visibly, as it can be both a help and a hindrance
-people work through things quickly! it will change when the objects aren't all in front of them, but I don't think I need to worry right now about my puzzles being too difficult/too long
-people notice similar shapes and colors, but not always
-some people will try everything, others will just look until they know what to do
-Several people didn't push the data chips in all the way -> they might get confused and think they used the wrong letters
-immediate feedback is important to show people that they did the right thing
-useful for people to be able to recognize everyday objects in different forms- they know how to use them already
Overall
People really enjoyed interacting with the objects, felt that they fit the theme, and were not completely frustrated by any part of it. They were excited about using the objects and felt rewarded when they figured out the correct way to use something.
-get flooring and install the floors
-finish both current puzzles
-make 3-5 more compartments and possibly add them to the physical space
-fully connect arduino and p5.js with electronics
