The competent teacher is an ethical and reflective practitioner who exhibits professionalism; provides leadership in the learning community; and advocates for students, parents or guardians, and the profession.
These are reflections I did on lessons that I taught. Standard 9K says the competent teacher reflects on professional practice and resulting outcomes; engages in self-assessment; and adjusts practices to improve student performance, school goals, and professional growth.
In the first two lesson reflections they were based on videos I watched of myslef teaching, and in the other one I reflected based on what I remembered from teaching the lesson. I would change the lesson for the next day based on how I thought the lesson went.
Standard 9B says that the competent teacher knows laws and rules (e.g., mandatory reporting, sexual misconduct, corporal punishment) as a foundation for the fair and just treatment of all students and their families in the classroom and school.
This is my mandated reporter certificate, showing that I know the laws and rules that come alomg with being an educator.Â
