Standard 4I) says a competent teacher creates a safe and healthy environment that maximizes student learning.
In my dream classroom I would want to have a place where students feel like they could achieve anything. I would love to have drawers for each one of my students or a cubby for them to keep their work. I would also love to have a critique wall where students can put up the work they are proud of. I would hope any classroom I have would feel as much liek the student's safe place as it is mine.
Expectations
In my high school classroom environment, the students and I set the expectations together. We made a list of what I expect from them and what they expect from me. Along with projects they might want to do or things they are interested in.
In my elementary school placement, we keep posters around the room talking about expectations and procedures to follow. There's lost of posters about how to take care of the classroom and the tools the students are provided.
Standard 4J) "the competent teacher creates clear expectations and procedures for communication and behavior and a physical setting conducive to achieving classroom goals."
