The competent teacher understands and uses appropriate formative and summative assessments for determining student needs, monitoring student progress, measuring student growth, and evaluating student outcomes. The teacher makes decisions driven by data about curricular and instructional effectiveness and adjusts practices to meet the needs of each student.
For most projects I've done with my classes the studetns will evalute themselves based on a rubric.
In the high school setting the students would also write an artist statement to explain the choices they made while creating their work of art.
In the elementary section they'll usually just answer questions about what they need to work on and what they're great at.
Standard 7L says that the competent teacher involves students in self-assessment activities to help them become aware of their strengths and needs and encourages them to establish goals for learning. Self-assessment is critical in art because they need to use that to develpoe their own art style.
Test Creation
During my educational phychology class I created a test for my fellow classmates and whoever else wanted to take the test. I learned how to utilize current technology to create tests and score them. I created a test based on chapter 3 of our educational psychology textbook.
This aligns with standard 7D, that the competent teacher understands current terminology and procedures necessary for the appropriate analysis and interpretation of assessment data.
