What Happens at Each Appointment?

🌻 Your Pregnancy Journey

Your pregnancy journey at Ar Teaghlach Medical & Maternity is designed to provide a realistic, immersive, and personalised experience from your first consultation through to delivery.

🌻 The Consultation

Your first visit is all about getting started.

You'll meet your chosen doctor, have your pregnancy HUD scanned, and discuss the available care packages. We'll answer any questions you may have and, if you are under 10 weeks pregnant, carry out some initial maternal wellbeing checks.

A pregnancy test can also be performed if you wish. You will be asked to provide a urine sample, and your doctor will guide you through the process during your appointment.

Please note: Your initial consultation is separate from your chosen care package.

Even if you select our free Basic Universal Care package, a L$1 registration payment is required through the appropriate vendor. This amount is automatically refunded and is simply used to add you to our patient records.

🌻 Week 10 — Stage 3

Nuchal Scan

An exciting milestone in your pregnancy!

We'll begin with maternal wellbeing checks and use a specialised sensor to check and record your baby's heartbeat. We'll then perform your first detailed ultrasound, looking at:

• Baby's development and size

• Placenta attachment and position

• Amniotic fluid levels

• Number of babies

Your weight will also be recorded as part of your routine pregnancy monitoring.

🌻 Week 20 — Stage 5

Anatomy Ultrasound

Your 20-week anatomy scan is a detailed examination of your baby's development.

After your usual maternal wellbeing and fetal heartbeat checks, you'll have a physical examination including checks for swelling or water retention in the legs and ankles. Your baby's position will also be assessed, followed by a fundal height measurement.

The ultrasound will then provide a detailed look at your baby's development, including the spine, facial structure, limbs, and other key anatomical features, as well as a thorough assessment of the placenta.

You will also have the option to have your baby's sex revealed, if you would like to know.

🌻 Week 25 — Stage 6

Laboratory & Bloodwork

This appointment focuses on your bloodwork and laboratory checks.

A blood sample will be collected and assessed for relevant pregnancy markers and potential indicators of hereditary or chromosomal conditions.

Your doctor will discuss the results and any findings with you as part of your ongoing maternity care.

🌻 Week 30 — Stage 7

Routine Check-Up

This is a straightforward routine appointment to make sure everything continues to progress as expected.

We'll check your basic maternal observations and your baby's heartbeat using the pregnancy sensor. Your physical wellbeing will also be assessed, and a urine sample will be collected.

Your doctor will ask some simple questions about your health, wellbeing, and diet to ensure you're feeling comfortable as your pregnancy progresses.

Please note: This appointment may not be included in every care package.

🌻 Week 35 — Stage 9

Positioning Ultrasound

With delivery getting closer, this appointment focuses on your baby's position and development.

We'll repeat your routine maternal and fetal checks, assess any swelling or water retention, and map your baby's position to ensure they are appropriately positioned for birth.

During the ultrasound, we'll measure your baby and assess the development of the limbs and skull.

A Group B Streptococcus (GBS) swab will also be taken during this appointment.

You'll also receive your Delivery Day Book, containing helpful information to prepare you for the final stage of your pregnancy.

🌻 Week 38

Birth Preparation

You're almost there!

At this appointment, you'll be given a tour of the Ar Teaghlach grounds and clinic, allowing you to familiarise yourself with the environment before your delivery.

You'll also have the opportunity to discuss your preferred birth experience and choose your birth mementos if these are included in your package.

Your Labour & Delivery Handbook will also be reviewed, giving you the opportunity to ask questions and make sure you're comfortable with your upcoming birth roleplay.

🌻 Week 40 — Stage 9

Delivery Day

Today is the day you've been waiting for! 🌻

Before your birth, please make sure you've read our Delivery Day Guide and familiarised yourself with the information provided in your Delivery Day Book.

If you have any final questions about your birth roleplay, your doctor will be happy to help.

Then it's time to welcome your little one into the world and begin the next chapter of your journey together.
