Click here for our class-curated resource slideshow on the Elements and Principles of Design, a unit designed to give students the vocabulary to speak on and analyze artworks and design.
In Kirsten's Literacy class we are studying narrative storytelling in scripted works. In the first half of the term we will focus on the narrative elements that work alongside a script to tell a story: visual design.
Over the next two months we will examine the design tools used by animators, comic artists, set designers, and costumers to inform the audience of key elements of a story. Understanding these tools is called visual literacy.
Visual literacy is important because an understanding of visual design choices and pitfalls is key for a deep critical analysis of scripted media. This page is dedicated to that exploration.
Students: feel free to reference these or make a copy of your own for your reference folder. Make sure to utilize the Elements and Principles slideshow for every class.
Watching the show is NOT required for class. We will be examining the design choices of the show creators and analyzing how those choices drive the narrative, inform the viewer, and navigate issues of appropriation through concept art, research, and articles.
IF you would like to watch the show, the show is on Netflix. Ask your parents if you can watch it but remember it is NOT required or needed for class.
