In Art 102, students will build upon their knowledge of Elements of Art and learn about the Principles of Design. This will help students understand how to interpret works of art, and design their own works more effectively. Students will be inspired by a combination of historic and contemporary artists, and use a variety of mediums, techniques and methods to explore the visual language of communication, expression, and creativity.
At the end of this course, students will be able to:
• Build knowledge of art vocabulary and aesthetics
• Understanding of the importance of art in the world, and be able to read, respond and connect to it
• Explore the idea of how the process of creating is equally important as the final outcome
• Communicate visually and justify artistic choices they have made in a work
For our first unit we will:
learn the strategies and tools artists use to convey a message
practice utilizing those same tools.
Learn the names and roles of the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design.
practice evaluating art based on formal properties.
produce our first two art pieces: a self portrait and a collaborative community mural, and choose the mediums, subject matter, and methods appropriate for each.
