... and Art is Presentation.
At the oldest middle school level we studied Lovecraft Country, HP Lovecraft, story structure, and racism. We touched on depictions and images in pop culture, and also the local artist and teacher Arvie Smith's work.
In the medium middle school level we learned about critical article analysis and advertising using the methods of artist Alexandra Bell.
The medium middle school level also designed newspapers as a tool to analyze the book Who Will Save the Planet? We integrated art through learning about layout, article structure, fonts, and logo design (see below)
To help facilitate the basics of design I taught some Quick Tips for Logo Design. It was a fun 15 minute lesson and most of them revised their logos after to make them more clear. All in all it was a lot of fun and it was exciting to see their finished papers at this fall's Learning Celebration.

My student teaching is at A Renaissance School of Arts & Sciences which is a K-8 school in Portland. I mainly teach middle school level literacy, numeracy, and content, however next term I will also have the opportunity to teach sculpture and symbolism to a variety of ages via the clubs curriculum.
Our integrated curriculum covers multiple education standards in multiple subjects.
