Automatically sort student work into the correct class and to the artist while taking the picture. Simultaneously display the class' artwork on a slideshow which can be paused to critique a work of art.
And did I mention? It's free!
First, I create a slideshow for each class and give each student their own page. Here is my template which you are welcome to use!
https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1p6EcCJTnL6GK5F4Acus4ejBALbAx33Nxm0Mg2ibJaxE/edit?usp=sharing
Here's how to make a copy:
You can change the background color. I have different colors for my different grade levels.
Select all the slides
Click on "Background" and choose the color.
You can also click on "background" and "choose image." You can upload your own or grab an image from drive. I like using the google image function.
Then, I go to
File
Share
Publish to the web
In order to loop the slides during class so students can see the work of their peers, I choose to have it start automatically and restart. I like 10 seconds per student slide.
Copy the link and paste it into a new tab...
I bookmark the page and sort it into a folder.
You can right click on the folder and open them all at once.
I split the screen so my choice board is on the left and the student work is cycling through on the right.
When we critique work, we simply expand the slideshow temporarily.
If you just took the picture, you will need to refresh the screen with "control+R"
Download the Google Slides App to your phone and make sure it's easy to get to quickly.
Search for the class gallery you want and open it.
Click directly on the slides and "Edit Slide" will pop up.
Click the "+" button.
Click on "Image"
Click on "from camera" and take a snapshot of the student's work!
Double tap to crop it.
Use the blue controls to resize it and move it around.
It's very easy to insert your slides into google sites, such as your learning page.
This is how I host student galleries.
I create project-specific slideshows as well with a new slide and a little copying and pasting.
"Insert" a "Slideshow"
Click on "settings"
Click "Auto Start"
Click "Loop Playback"
I put all of my slideshows in a folder and left click to *share* the folder (as viewer or commenter) so parents can open the slideshow on a separate (bigger) window.
