Module 1

Career Self-Assessments

Module 1 Description/Overview:

A job loss or career chance can shake us to the very core, so it is important to take care of ourselves during this time of transition. By identifying a network of support and re-evaluating expenditures, the emotional and financial impact can be lessened. This is also a good time to evaluate the next step. Have you been working in a career that is best suited to your innate strengths and abilities? Do you even know what your strengths and weaknesses are? This module will provide an opportunity to create in-depth self-assessment profiles to better define a meaningful career path.

Instructions:

You will now be completing a series of four (4) assessments: (1) Interest Assessment, (2) Skills Assessment, (3) Work Values Assessment and (4) Personality Assessment.  The results from each assessment will need to be copied to your Career Assessment Results document.   All your assessment results will be leveraged to assist you in making informed career decisions such as what occupation to potentially pursue and/or what type of certification is needed to make you competitive within the workforce.  Results from all assessments can be used by you and your career adviser to help  develop focus in examining, in more detail, occupations which seem to satisfy your interests, work values, and abilities (Wall, 2003). The Department of Labor considers these instruments to be what they call the basis for "whole-person" assessment (Wall, 2003).

Research showcases that sometimes; depending on the environment, our decision-making and performance can vary and be influenced (Kennedy, D. & Kennedy, R.,  2004).   As you complete your assessments, answer each assessment in the context of the workplace and the professional arena.  This will ensure your results support practical and attainable goals within the time frame of our program funding.

Lastly, please ensure you allot an appropriate amount of time to complete the assessments.  Based on past customer feedback, Module 1 and Module 2 are the most time intensive.   Enjoy!
