Sometimes the internet sucks. And sometimes it can be such a great source of joy. But it's sort of RARE, so when you DO find it somewhere, take note and keep coming back to it. Every morning, I look at these 3 "news outlets" for the best UPLIFTING news out there. They do NOT disappoint. They will make you melt and restore your faith in humanity and in the media. Think about making it a habit to read as much GOOD news every day, as you do, heavy-news.
people have been using THREE objects in their home to help REENACT a piece of art, just for fun. Low pressure. High reward of satisfaction. Love Frida Kahlo? Matisse? Try your best to recreate one of their masterpieces.
DM @Ms.Wallach_Art_APR with your submissions.
The other day, prompted by other APR faculty, I dug around for an old picture of me, and did my best to recreate it as authentically as I could. (They did it too, I swear).
Several things happened:
1) I took it very seriously.
2) The photographer and I [bickered cause we] kept noticing different details at different times- NOT ideal.
3) I realized how different my head was from how it used to be: a very long oval vs. a short round situation.
We all have some time on our hands. If this is your thing, take some time to find and look through old family pictures (maybe even taking photos on you phone of them, so you can more easily access them in the future). Then do a reenactment-- and SEND them to me. Challenge ACCEPTED??!
They will release activities weekly, over the course of the next few months. Each activity will include a feature of a woman in tech who pioneered innovative technology.
While Mr. Bryant is probably the go-to coding master in the school, I'm sure we have a few moles hiding among us.... I WONDER HOW THEY LEARNED? Did they fiddle around on their own? Take a course in college?
I know that it's a skill that I still really want to learn. Why?
Well, I am pretty confident about building websites already, but only using TEMPLATES (even if it's mostly from scratch). Learning how to CODE would allow me to customize, personalize, and BUILD COOL FEATURES from the BACK END. Without that, I'm still pretty limited, and contemplate calling an old ex-boyfriend/master coder, every time I'm stumped on a building-element. (I never do). Anyway, that's my 'WHY.'
If you're interested in just poking around at coding in really fun introductory ways, this site is for you- and not JUST girls. Though this organization focuses on engaging girls in STEM.

Click through this image gallery to see some ideas for using MAKEUP as your MEDIUM.
Color theory, proportion, emphasis!! It all comes into play when applying subtle OR THEATRICAL and CREATIVE lewks.
Think about using eye-liners for more than just to outline your eyes, use them for the line-work. Think about using lipsticks or lipgloss to parts of the eyelid at the end to add dimension. Make STENCILS! Think about going BEYOND the eye... extending it up to your forehead or jaw too. Use natural things or materials you find around the house (tin foil, cut paper, cotton ball fibers) to add sculptural elements for a photoshoot. (SAFETY PRECAUTION: Careful that what you use can be removed and is safe for your face and near eyes: glitter, lash adhesive, etc.)
This time, it's a list. :)

If you don't feel like ONLY drawing... you could look through magazines for some elements and CUT THEM OUT!
Combine them with your hand-drawn elements!
You've just made a "mixed-media collage!"

Even if you don't have ALL of the materials, think about what you DO have that you can use.
