Perfume Ad

Exhibit 07

Description. The goal of this exhibit was to do something new and what was done is a small flier using the skills learned in the last few lessons. The concept of the flier is a perfume ad that would give the impression of being engulfed by the essence of the product.

Contrast. Throughout the image there is a standard tone of pinks that flow and fill the white space of the design. To add contrast, the font that was chosen is a strong angled font that starkly stands against the flowing loose nature of the whole design. Additionally, the perfume bottle that was chosen also stands out from the rest of the design with hard edges and darker colors.

Repetition. The font is consistent throughout the entire design, differing only in size and color. The main image that fills the page features a common pink hue them as well as an upward flowing nature along with the talents hair.

Alignment. All text is right aligned to a guide that is about .125 inches inset to the page, the perfume bottle sits within the pink smoke touching center from the left.

Proximity. The title and subtitle are together at the top of the image; the tagline, perfume bottle, talent, and smoke all make up the bottom right side of the image.

Photoshop. To start the backdrop image was brought in and scaled to fit the design. Next, the talent image was masked out of its background using Adobe calculations; this was then masked into a copy of the background. Similarly, the smoke effect was masked from its background using Adobe calculations; after which, the smoke effect was scaled and positioned then color matched to the background with a darker tone to ensure it stood out more. The perfume bottle was masked from its background with the rectangular selection tool, further refined using the pen and marquee tools; then, the original logo was removed from the bottle using content aware-fill. The bottle was then brought in as a smart object, given a drop shadow in white and tucked beneath the smoke effect. Text was tagged on at a right align with titles to the top and tagline to the bottom in various sizes and colors to fit the area they are in.

Revision. For the revision to this design, the text was brought into the image a more to give them more breathing room away from the edges. The perfume bottle was moved in as well, but also over the harder textures to the bottom left corner to cover that distraction. Additionally, the size was a concern, which has not been changed, but if it were to be adjusted 8.3x5.8 inches is a relatively standard size for a flyer and that is what it would be adjusted too.
