Exhibit 04

Infographic

Description: The goal of this exhibit was to use shapes, hierarchy, and color to design an infographic. The graphic is designed to be a simple flow from point to point as guided by arrows, it has been pointed out to me that this template would be good for use in relation to parks, forests, or nature diagrams.

Contrast. To provide strong contrasting images, large shapes and fonts against thinner text and simple backgrounds were used. The colors cut through each other strongly in a way that deeply show through the backgrounds that they are on.

Repetition. Each title for the sections are written in Bebas Neue, a very strong Arial type font, with Montserrat Italic as the lower texts. As each box transfers to the next via the arrows, there is a flip of colors to maintain the contrasts

Alignment. There is a guide around the edge of the graphic that indents to around half an inch. For the text boxes, a selection was made, contracted by 10 pixels and filled. Those specifics aside, the graphic should have a relatively structure feel that is also somewhat fluid from the arrows and curved edges.

Proximity. Each section is a self contained section that would relate to its particular subject within the whole infographic. While the arrows do guide from one section to the next, they do so with overlapping arrow that maintain the color of the previous section, letting the reader know that they are entering a new sub topic.

Photoshop. First was finding the right color scheme which ended up being an Adobe Afternoon Theme 10. Next, the shapes were made with around a 30 pt curve on the edges, additionally the underlines were made using the rectangle tool with curved edges then duplicated with a step and repeat (this is also the technique used for the circles and bar graph). Each arrow was made with the curved edges of rectangles and triangles with 5 pt curves. Making a selection of each square then contracting the selection and transforming it to build the text boxes and filling with the Lorem Ipsum paste function.

Citation.

Revision. To revise this design, the large text boxes, graphics and titles were adjusted to allow for more white space or breathing room. The box at the top was shrunk to ensure that the title is seen as more deliberately breaking the boundary of the box. Lastly, all the title pieces were given a simple drop shadow to add more contrast to the image overall.
