Artifact Description:
In the Spring of 2022, I created a Writing unit on various genres of music. In thus writing unit, I included various methods on teaching students to read and write about the key information that they found in their books or resources on their genre topic. This unit will take place in one week in which each day the students will work on a different section of their project. You can view the unit plan for more reference. This unit also includes a letter to the parents or guardians covering the project and a schedule of what will be due or worked on each day.
Standard Connection and Reflection:
In this unit studnets will work on their reading and writing skill connecting with other subjects that are used in the music classroom. In this artifact students will cover the following sections of standard 6:
6A) understands appropriate and varied instructional approaches used before, during, and after reading, including those that develop word knowledge, vocabulary, comprehension, fluency, and strategy use in the content areas;
6D) understands writing processes and their importance to content learning;
6Q) integrates reading, writing, and oral communication to engage students in the content learning.
These sections are broken throught out the lessons as students will dive in read their books and find information. They will learn more on the individual genre that they chose to work on. This also reinforce the skills learned in English or language skill classes.

Artifact Description:
During Hispanic Heritage Month in my first placement, I was able to teach kindergarten the mexican chant Bate, Bate Chocolate. I had the students echo sing after me and then we got to play it using bells, triangles, shakers, rhythm sticks and tambourines. Students were able to play on the word "Chocolate". Students were able to color this page and take it home to share with their families the spanish song that they learned in music.
Standard Connection and Reflection:
In this students were able to learn through standard section 6Q) integrates reading, writing, and oral communication to engage students in the content learning. I included simple reading and worked through the words with the students as they are learning how to read. They were able to understand the translation of each word and were able to use this sheet to sing it at home. Students were excited to be able to have a copy of the words so that they can have their parents or guardians read it to them.
