3rd Grade Lesson Plan: Mr. Everybody (CDE) and Rhythms
Rationale:
Artifact Description:
At my second placement (District 161), students have been working on learning how to read the notes on the staff line. Using the story Mr. Everybody and songs, students will be able to move on through information that will help them identify and be able to read the notes on the Music staff. I taught several lessons using the book and students worked on songs #1-3 an were accessed. Students participated in a whole group reading of the book after that I break down the steps and have them work with partners. When planning the lesson, I assess my students knowledge through the various steps including rhythm, solfege and letter names. Creating these steps helps me be able to identify students knowledge. It also helps identify the areas that students struggle with and the opportunity to plan for next time how to approach the problems. Students were able to learn and pass song 1 within the week that this lesson was taught. Students have music twice a week and were able to play the song by the 2nd class that week.
Standard Connection and reflection:
This artifact taught me the importance to plan and include different stratergies and approaches when teaching new content and testing knowledge. It is important to differentiate the lesson based on the class, the students and what they are capable of. This artifact connect with 2B)"understands major concepts, assumptions, debates, and principles; processes of inquiry; and theories that are central to the disciplines..."This was the first time that instructed my students to work with partners. It showed me the importance of partnering students with someone who can help them be successful. It also showed me that through using various steps students are able to approach the music and grow their knowledge through using literacy.
Learning about
Lines and Spaces
Rationale:
Artifact Description:
In the Spring for my Novice teaching, I was recquired to teach a few lessons. One of them was with 2nd grade in which I was introducing them to Line and Spaces on the music staff. I created this google slide to show the students a visual of the staff and how to read the number of spaces and lines. Then we played a game on the board using the last slide in order to assess the students understanding of how to identify and read the lines. My cooperating teacher and I created a large mat of a staff using electrical tape and a shower curtain to which the students used giant circles with numbers to mark the lines and spaces.
Standard Connection and reflection:
This artifact taught me the importance to plan and include different stratergies and approaches when teaching new content and testing knowledge. Students were familiar with staffs but not to the level of being able to indentify the lines and spaces. This artifact connect with 2B)"understands major concepts, assumptions, debates, and principles; processes of inquiry; and theories that are central to the disciplines..." Students were able to use various games and opportunities to show their understanding of the material and show it through various methods of practice.
