This lesson examines the concepts of a digital footprint, how to examine yours and what implications that can have. This can involve looking at your search history and your Google account activities. Additionally, we also learned how to use operators, such as quotes or minus signs to refine Google searches.

AI Prompts
One of the best prompt experiement actually came from this assignment. I've been trying to find good uses for AI, but it mostly came down to silly pictures and things like asking it to create a shakepearean sonnet about a man getting kicked in the nuts. The poem was actually kind of funny, but not particularly useful.
When I was in graduate school over a decade ago, I used a web application called, "son of citation machine." At the time I thought it was cutting edge, because having to cite everything by hand was tedious and I was never REALLY sure I was formating correctly or including everything I needed. Like many things on the internet, it was free for a while only for them to erect a paywall to use the service and it was back to the owl of purdue website and trying to pick out and mimic the correct format from the list.
Behold......AI. For this assignment, I just told ChatGPT to create an APA citations for all of the sources above and I copied and pasted them into the text box. On the one hand I envy the students of today, because they won't know just how tedious creating a Work Cited page was, but on the other hand, I no longer dread having to do it myself.
I learned a lot about digital footprints in this lessons. I am someone that values privacy and have made a conscious effort to minimize my digital footprint, but there was one part of the assignment where we checked our google activities, and I was surprised to see that my YouTubeTV account was logged. That was totally unexpected and goes to show you, even when you think you're being private, you're still being tracked. I also learned how to use Google more effectively with certain search terms and operators. I had known about these things, but I would always rephrase my question so I would get the results I wanted. That's probably the motivation for Google to make the switch to the Natural Language Model for the latest installment of their search engine.
