Standard 6 - Reading, Writing, and Oral Communication:
The competent teacher has foundational knowledge of reading, writing, and oral communication within the content area and recognizes and addresses student reading, writing, and oral communication needs to facilitate the acquisition of content knowledge.
Students make sketchbooks at the very beginning of the rotation. A rotation is the term we use for how long a class has with the Encore classes, such as Art, Music, FACTS, and Band. They usually are about 6-7 weeks.
During each class, we have every student create a sketchbook. These differ from other sketchbooks as we use these to take notes, draw out thumbnails and rough sketches of our projects, and weite down our reflections for our projects. We also have Warm-Up pages too, in which at the beginning of our class each day, we have a specific warm-up on the board for the class to tackle. This could be either meditative, a challenging request, or write their thoughts sbout an art quote from a famous artist.
This is a Lesson Plan that I had to come up with and my Reflections after teaching the project. I was taking over my co-op's Exploratory Value Panting and helped guide the students to take a word of value and create a symbol that represents that value to them. Not only was I to teach the lesson of Tempera Paints to my class, I also taught students how to set up, use, and clean up their paints. I want to make sure that our students understands the importance of a clean and structured art area to work at.
The point of this project is to help them identify the importance of Value, as well as learning different painting techniques to use with the Tempera Paints.
